Build a Backyard Birdhouse: Screech Owl - 102-1-1799

Let’s build a backyard birdhouse fit for an Eastern Screech Owl. These helpful hunters prey upon small mammals, birds, and insects. They happily nest in boxes and utilize habitats throughout Michigan, including in the park and in many urban and suburban backyards! We’ll learn about these amazing owls and their specific habitat requirements before building our box to take home. You’ll leave with a completed box and the knowledge of where and how to install, observe, maintain, and enjoy your backyard bird box through time.

What to Expect: This program takes place almost entirely indoors. A short walk to view owl boxes will take place on compact gravel (distance of less than a ¼ mile). More than 90 minutes of the program time will be indoors, viewing slides and constructing the box. Participants can sit or stand for the duration of the program.

Ages: 10 and up
Time: 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Cost: $30 for first person building a box, $5 per person not building a box; $25 per additional birdhouse kit
Location: Lake St Clair Metropark, Nature Center

Pre-registration is required by 4 p.m. one week (7 days) before the program.
