Calling All Owls: Kensington - 104-1-1325

‘Whooo’ is hiding in the woods? Owls, of course! With the help of mounted specimens and recorded calls, we’ll familiarize ourselves with the owl species common to Southeast Michigan. We’ll discover their survival strategies and use some hands-on demonstrations to highlight the incredible adaptations of these nocturnal birds of prey. Then we’ll embark on an hour-long guided moonlit stroll along a nature trail to search for owls and other nocturnal creatures in the park. Bring a flashlight but be prepared to walk in the dark.
What to expect:
This program starts indoors and ends outside. Expect to walk about ¾ of a mile on a dirt and gravel trail at a leisurely pace with frequent stops. We will end the walk back at the Kensington Metropark Nature Center. The path is mostly flat and level, but does include some roots and bumps. For maximum enjoyment, some of our time will require all participants to patiently remain quiet and listen closely.
