Kayak the Summer Solstice

Experience a once-a-year natural event in a kayak. Enjoy a leisurely paddle, then come together right at the moment of the Sun’s annual summer solstice to celebrate connection with a paddler’s game. Beginners welcome. Paddles, kayaks, and lifejackets provided.

A limited amount of mounted angled oars or wrist-grip paddle adaptations available for use. Would you need to reserve adaptive paddling equipment to participate in this program? Call 810-227-8917 or email [email protected]. Participants should be familiar with using the equipment because we will not have staff available to assist with transfers into and out of kayaks or to instruct using adaptive equipment. You can learn more about these at https://www.metroparks.com/kensington-metropark/#accessibility.

What to Expect:
This program is entirely outdoors. No prior experience is necessary.  For maximum enjoyment, some of our 2 hour program time will require all participants to patiently remain quiet and listen closely. A group interactive activity or game with instructions will be involved.

Ages: Adults 18 and up.
Time: 10 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
Cost: $35 per adult
Location: Kensington Metropark, Boat Rental launch area

Pre-registration is required by 4 p.m. the day before the program.

Pre-register online by checking the box of the program you would like to attend. A "Selected Items" window will appear at the bottom of your screen. Click on the "Add to Cart" button to add program to your cart. You can also call for questions or help with registration at 810-227-8917.
A few reminders to make our float as comfortable as possible:
- Temperatures may be warm, so please bring a water bottle, and sunscreen or a hat.
- Do not wear cotton clothing or jeans. We are anticipating a leisurely paddle, however there is always a small risk of getting wet when on a boat. Cotton holds water, keeping you cold, wet, and uncomfortable if you happen to splash yourself or fall in. Additionally, please wear shoes that can get wet.
- If you registered a friend, don't forget to forward this information to them!
