Details for Chickadee Chow Down

Date(s): 02/17/2024 - 02/17/2024

Time: 10:00 am -11:00 am

Overview:
Bundle up and enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience! Around the Nature Center, a variety of winter songbirds will eagerly fly to your hand for seeds. While feeding wildlife in the Metroparks is against park rules, we make a special exception for songbirds during this program since it’s unique to Kensington Metropark. We’ll begin inside the nature center to learn why this activity is possible in the park, how to identify the birds you might feed, and how to properly feed songbirds in the park. Then we will take a short, guided walk to meet your new feathered friends. We’ll provide all the seed you’ll need, but you might want to bring your camera. Lightly colored gloves or mittens are recommended for best results.

What to Expect:
This program starts indoors, concludes outside. Time will be spent on a leisurely walk with frequent stops. Expect to walk about 0.5 miles. The planned path is dirt and gravel and may be snowy and/or icy but is mostly flat and level. No prior experience is necessary. For maximum enjoyment, some of our program time will require all participants to patiently remain quiet and listen closely. An opportunity for individual Q&A will be made available at the presentation conclusion.
