Details for Nature Book Club

Date(s): 06/18/2023 - 06/18/2023

Time: 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Overview:
Join us every other month when we will read a different book focused on environment, nature or wildlife. We will meet in the Marshlands Museum to discuss what we read, while we enjoy some light refreshments. Afterwards, we will take a short hike relating to the outdoors and the book we read! Book titles will be read in the following order:

Sunday, February 19: Finding the Mother Tree by Suzanne Simard
“Simard writes of her own life, born and raised into a logging world in the rainforests of British Columbia, of her days as a child spent cataloging the trees from the forest and how she came to love and respect them.”

Sunday, April 16: Gifts of the Crow by John Marzluff
“Filled with wonderful stories of regular people's interactions with ravens, crows, and jays, it also cites engrossing scientific studies, reports on the field work of biologists, and offers detailed explanations of how the brain of a corvid actually works.”

Sunday, June 18: The Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan
“In telling the stories of four familiar species, Pollan illustrates how the plants have evolved to satisfy humankind’s most basic yearnings. And just as we’ve benefited from these plants, we have also done well by them.”
